Infidelity statistics: what the numbers really show and why people choose a fidelity test

Infidelity remains one of the most painful topics in relationships. That is why people so often search for information on infidelity statistics, marital infidelity, the percentage of cheating in marriage and statistics on cheating in marriage. People are interested in numbers, but behind the dry percentages there is usually a personal question: is my own partner cheating?

Who cheats more: men or women

One of the most popular questions is who cheats more: men or women.

The short answer: men cheat roughly 1.4–2 times more often than women. This is what large anonymous surveys in the USA show:

SurveyMenWomen
Have cheated at least once while married (General Social Survey)20%13%
Have cheated while married (iFidelity, YouGov, 2019)20%10%
Sex with another person without the partner’s consent (YouGov, 2025)29%21%

According to the General Social Survey, among people under 30, women admit to cheating even slightly more often than men: 11% versus 10%. With age, the share of those who have cheated at least once grows: it is highest among men aged 70–79 (26%) and women aged 60–69 (16%).

We are not aware of any large anonymous studies of infidelity in Ukraine with a published methodology, so we cite American data.

Sources: Institute for Family Studies, 2018; Institute for Family Studies, 2020; YouGov, 2025.

Looking for an answer rather than signs? There are two ways to find out for sure: the online VerifEye test (from 2,500 UAH (≈ €50), no need to visit the office) or a classic polygraph test — calculate the price.

People also often search for:

  • who cheats more: men or women (statistics)

  • who cheats more: husband or wife

  • male and female infidelity statistics

  • percentage of women and men who cheat

According to various studies, male infidelity statistics and female infidelity statistics vary by country, age and type of relationship. However, no statistics on men cheating or statistics on women cheating can answer the question of a specific couple.

Female infidelity statistics: what people search for most

Many searches are specifically about women:

  • what percentage of women cheat

  • what percentage of women cheat on their husbands

  • percentage of wives who cheat on their husbands

  • female infidelity rate

  • female infidelity statistics

  • how often do women cheat

  • how often women cheat (statistics)

  • do women cheat often

  • do all women cheat on their husbands

  • how often do wives cheat on their husbands

  • how often does a wife cheat on her husband

  • how many women cheat

  • how many women cheat on their husbands

  • how many wives cheat on their husbands

What percentage of women cheat: 10–13% of women have cheated at least once while married, and among all the women surveyed, 21% have had sex with another person without their partner’s consent (see the table above). The highest share is among women aged 60–69: 16%.

Despite all the figures, female infidelity statistics cannot dispel the doubts in a specific relationship.

Male infidelity statistics: popular questions

Just as many searches are about men:

  • what percentage of men cheat

  • how many men cheat

  • what percentage of men cheat on their wives

  • what percentage of husbands cheat on their wives

  • percentage of men who cheat on their wives

  • do all men cheat (statistics)

  • how many men cheat on their wives

  • how many men cheat on their wives (statistics)

  • how many husbands cheat on their wives

  • statistics on how many husbands cheat on their wives

  • statistics on men cheating

  • male infidelity (statistics)

What percentage of men cheat: about 20% of men have cheated at least once while married, and among all the men surveyed, 29% have had sex with another person without their partner’s consent (see the table above). The highest share is among men aged 70–79: 26%.

These figures only fuel suspicion; they do not give a factual answer.

Cheating among girlfriends and unmarried couples

A separate group of searches concerns relationships outside marriage:

  • what percentage of girls cheat

  • what percentage of girls cheat on their boyfriends

  • girlfriends cheating (statistics)

The situation here is just the same: the rate of infidelity in relationships is no substitute for testing a specific person.

Why statistics do not settle the main question

All these searches — marital infidelity statistics, how often wives cheat, do wives often cheat on their husbands, how often women cheat — share one common problem:
statistics deal with the masses, not with specific people.

That is why people who are tired of doubt look for a real way to find out the truth, not yet another figure.

Fidelity test: when numbers are not enough

When suspicion is destroying trust, the logical step is a fidelity test. The most reliable method remains the classic polygraph, which:

  • records physiological reactions;

  • is conducted under the supervision of a specialist;

  • gives an objective result on specific questions.

It is the polygraph that couples most often choose when marital infidelity statistics no longer satisfy them and they need the truth about their own relationship.

EyeDetect — a modern solution without the “human factor”

For many jealous people an important question is: can the result be bought?
In the case of EyeDetect — no.

EyeDetect:

  • analyses micro-movements of the eyes and cognitive load;

  • works according to an algorithm;

  • the result is produced by the system, not by a person;

  • rules out any possibility of deals or tampering.

That is why EyeDetect is often chosen as an alternative or an addition to the polygraph — especially in emotionally difficult situations.

Conclusion

  • Infidelity statistics may be interesting, but they give no answer to a specific person.

  • The percentage of infidelity in marriage will not tell you what is happening in your relationship.

  • When what matters is the truth rather than guesswork, it is worth choosing a fidelity test.

The classic polygraph and the modern EyeDetect — these are real tools that help you get facts instead of living in doubt.

❓ FAQ — common questions about infidelity, statistics and fidelity testing

1. Can you trust statistics on infidelity in marriage?

Statistics on infidelity in marriage show general trends, but they do not answer the question of a specific couple. They cannot confirm or refute the infidelity of a specific person.

2. Who cheats more — men or women?

According to large surveys in the USA, men cheat roughly 1.4–2 times more often: 20% of men and 10–13% of women have cheated at least once while married. Among people under 30 there is almost no difference. But general percentages will not tell you what is happening in your relationship — for that you need facts.

3. Do all men or women cheat?

No. Searches such as “do all men cheat” or “do all women cheat” come from fear and mistrust. In reality, infidelity is an individual decision, not a norm for everyone.

4. Which is more reliable: statistics or a fidelity test?

Statistics give only a general picture. A fidelity test (polygraph or EyeDetect) gives you an answer about a specific person and specific questions.

5. What is the difference between a polygraph and EyeDetect?

A polygraph records physiological reactions (breathing, pulse, tension), while EyeDetect analyses micro-movements of the eyes and cognitive load. Both methods are used to check truthfulness, but in different formats.

6. Can an EyeDetect result be bought or faked?

No. With EyeDetect, the result is produced by an automated algorithm. The human factor is excluded, so the result cannot be “arranged” or changed.

7. When is it worth taking a fidelity test?

When doubts are destroying trust, conversations give no answers, and the decision has serious consequences for the relationship or the family.

8. Does a polygraph or EyeDetect guarantee 100% truth?

No method gives a magic 100%, but a professional polygraph and EyeDetect are far more accurate than guesses, intuition or statistics.

9. Do both partners have to take the test?

No. The test format is decided individually — depending on the situation, the questions and the purpose of the test.

10. Why do people choose a fidelity test instead of guesswork?

Because facts relieve tension, even when the truth is hard. Uncertainty usually harms a relationship more than an honest answer does.
